In the rural town of Orange, nestled in the countryside of Jacmel, Haiti, the journey of École Préscolaire Orange began with a vision and a deep desire to bring education to children who had never stepped foot in a classroom. During our first visit, we met with parents and community leaders, witnessing firsthand the need for accessible education in this underserved area.
With little more than faith and determination, we set out to establish a small school that could change the lives of these children. On our second visit, on May 11th, 2009, we found a building suitable for the school and held discussions with the parents about their vital role in making this project a success for the entire community.
September 14th, 2009, marked the first day of class at École Préscolaire Orange. The school opened its doors with 43 students, a principal, three dedicated teachers, and two helpers. Each child receives an education free of charge, with our goal being to not only double the number of students in the coming year but also to provide them with a hot lunch every day.
